Transferring to a new school is never easy—especially during senior year. Katherine Rodriguez Gonzalez returned to her old school, which felt a bit new. Armed with a positive outlook and big plans, she made the most of the latter part of senior year.
Q: Where did you transfer from, and what brought you to OHS?
A: After my freshman year at Rio Mesa, I came to OHS sophomore and junior year then transferred to an online school and then came back January 31.
Q: How was it adjusting to a new school but old so late in the game?
A: Different. Very lonely. My old friends had found new friends. And I was an older student looking at younger ones.
Q: How would you describe yourself to someone who hasn’t met you yet?
A: I’m actually sweet, talkative, and modest. I take my time to get to know people. I do like to talk. I’m calm, not too loud.
Q: What are some passions, hobbies, or talents people might not know about you?
A: I’m into doing other people’s makeup. I love baking. My family always asks for my choco flan.
Q: If you could’ve joined a club, sport, or activity here earlier, what would it have been and why?
A: I would have liked to be in dance the way I was at Rio Mesa. I would have liked to try volleyball, too.
Q: What are your plans after graduation?
A: I’ve always wanted to be a forensic pathologist. After talking to my sister, who is an ultrasound tech, she told me that it would take years and to focus on what I’m good at. From there, I thought I’ve always wanted to be a vet. I like dogs and learning about animals. I’m also thinking of joining the Navy. It would be a good opportunity for me. Besides the benefits, I could continue my education.
Q: Any message for your classmates?
A: To my younger classmates, surround yourself with good, intelligent people that actually want a future. Stop smoking–stop thinking it’s cool. Specifically to the girls, focus more on yourself. Stop worrying about what the guys think or say. Make sure you pass all your classes if you really want to graduate.
